Become a Friend of Wellspring
Friends support the organization and have access to hike or snowshoe Wellspring’s 36 acres of woods, meadows, prairies, ponds, river trails, labyrinth and gardens. Friends receive a $10 discount for an overnight stay, using Wellspring’s Bed and Breakfast rooms or the Guest House cottage. Friends receive the Wellspring Seasonal Newsletter as a way of keeping in touch and staying informed. Friends help when they can as volunteers. Friends have been the backbone of Wellspring since 1982.
Friends know that they support Wellspring in continuing to provide programming, education, and resources committed to it’s mission of inspiring and teaching people to grow, prepare and eat healthy food. In so doing, they support us in transforming food systems and building community AND positively impacting everyone’s food safety, security and sovereignty!

Asparagus Society - Legacy / Endowment Gift
No gift is too large OR too small to become a member of the Asparagus Society. Like the asparagus crown that is planted and annually gifts us with its wonderful fruit, your legacy gift from your will/estate supports Wellspring in fulfilling its mission and in making a real positive difference in our local food system.

Did you know?  Wellspring's work impacts EVERY level of our local food system.  Our work ensures growers for the future, stewardship of the land and our environment, economic strength and community empowerment.  Want to learn more? Contact us.
  • Agri-CORPS teens developed and implemented the education program, BEE Knowledge. They and others teach all ages the importance of pollinators for our planet's health.  
  • Wellspring has monthly Farm2School programming in 3 School Districts. These include education classes in the 4th grade classrooms AND monthly produce tasting in the cafeteria for all students. Two schools are growing in raised beds and the veggies are being used in the cafeteria and last year we installed raised beds at Silverbrook Middle School in West Bend.
    • Students are independently choosing to try new produce and
    • Wellspring initiatives and education are having a direct economic impact in the region.
      • Sales at local grocers show increased purchasing of the featured veggie of the month anywhere from 100% to 400% for the same veggie from the sales in the previous year.
      • The only attributable differences affecting the increased sales is the education in the grade school and the monthly veggie tasting along with signage at the store.
    • Parents receive newsletter with information about the featured veggie nutritional value and recipes for the veggie in partnership with INVEST and Well Washington.
    • Home-school groups, preschools, and classrooms visit Wellspring throughout the year for hands-on learning about gardening, the environment, and more.
  • Implemented the SouthEastern Wisconsin Virtual Food Hub and served as the catalyst for a Food Summit and several subsequent meetings to bring this Virtual Food Hub (debuted May 2015) to SouthEastern Wisconsin. Provided thru a partnership with Farmers Web this will facilitate a means of getting local food into institutions such as schools, hospitals, grocery stores, restaurants, nursing homes, etc.
    • 38 regional farmers gave voice to the project, along with 5 school districts, 3 hospital systems and many more 
  • Wellspring farm interns and former farm managers now own their own farms, work for other farms and/or community garden projects or have remained active in the local organic food movement. Hundreds of others have learned how to grow their own food in community gardens, backyard gardens, and in containers.
  • Nearly 100 educational workshops and classes are now held by Wellspring annually to teach growing, preparing and eating healthy food. 
  • In June of 2015, Wellspring began stewardship of 30 acres (rented) to restore the health of the soil after decades of chemicals and pesticides. After 3 years of dynamic plantings and cover crops, including 20 seed blend "cocktails" and soil amendments, 20 acres will come into use by Wellspring to rest our current fields and to develop an incubator farm with opportunities for young and beginning farmers.
  • Wisconsin Local Food Network approached and contracted with Wellspring to provide management services to run the nonprofit that is committed to local food and now celebrating its 11th year of Local Food Summits. Wellspring has successfully managed WLFN and "produced" two outstanding Summits.
