Education Coordinator - Farm to School / Youth

Job Description:
This position is responsible for all facets of existing and new Farm to School programs provided by Wellspring Education Center and Organic Farm. Presently 5 school districts participate in varying degrees from 4th or 5th grade classroom education, monthly cafeteria vegetable tasting, school gardens, family education/engagement, grocery store veggie of the month, and classroom/youth group farm visits.

This position will be responsible for all aspects of the program including developing and growing, oversight, planning, promotion, implementation, and evaluation. It includes but is not limited to partnering with other agencies (County Health Department(s)/IMPACT) to facilitate Farm to School support groups for each school and/or school district; working with food service managers/directors; developing curriculum to integrate and bring garden, nutrition, and environmental education into classroom experiences. 
Position will also coordinate development, delivery and training for teachers and local farmers. Coordinator also seeks, trains, and develops volunteer corps for classroom instruction, garden development, and monthly Veggie Tasting. Teaching in the classroom and serving at the cafeteria vegetable tastings is necessary where volunteer leadership is not available.

Compensation: $9 - $12/hour dependent on experience

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Create, research, develop, manage and promote all Farm to School/youth education programs for Wellspring, including those done in partnership with others.
• Develop, implement and manage plans for Wellspring education demonstration gardens. This includes record keeping, stewardship, and coordination of work plans. 
• Develop and manage education budget as approved by supervisor and board of directors.
• Research, write and/or support the writing and submission of grants that further Wellspring’s mission related to educational programming and initiatives.
• Work in partnership with Farm Manager and Hospitality Coordinator to ensure smooth scheduling of programs, cross-programming where possible, and coordinating and purchasing that benefit the organization.
• Research cutting edge education and programming for related programs and activities that further and fulfill the Wellspring mission
• Connect & collaborate with other community organizations, area farmers, etc., to broaden and expand impact our mission for related programs.
• Provide for up-to-date marketing and public relations for related programs and events and furthering awareness of Wellspring including print, radio, tv, web site and social media.
• Lead volunteer recruitment, training, and programming for related program responsibilities.
• Develop volunteer and part-time staff to meet related educational programming and event needs.
• Any and all other duties deemed necessary by the Executive Director.

• Wellspring programs continue to grow and fulfill the mission of the organization.
• Awareness of Wellspring, its mission and its programs, events, and services are broadly promoted and attended.
• Volunteer numbers grow and a volunteer corps assist with and provide programming, support of programs, and events.
• Strong integration of programs with all Wellspring programs and activities.
• Effective evaluation of programs is conducted and reviewed for enhancement of offerings and to determine trends and/or patterns that can be used for a variety of purposes including, but not limited to, marketing and promotion, program development and research.
• Managing of budget to meet or exceed expectations.

Qualifications:
Teaching experience required. Bachelor degree preferred in Education, Environmental Studies, Nonprofit Management, Agriculture or related field. Ability to work with all ages and to work thru others. Experience in volunteer recruitment/management and/or teaching and coordinating programs preferred. Must be committed to positively impacting our food system. Must have driver's license. Able to lift and carry items 30-45 lbs. Spanish language skills a plus. Curriculum development experience a plus.

Vacation and sick days. Organic produce grown on the farm during season.

Other information:
There may be a possibility of this being hired as a full-time position if the individual is able to live in community at Wellspring. Would include most food, internet, laundry, utilities. Salary could be $6,500 - $9,000 in addition to previously stated amenities.
